The Diner Give Europeans Food For Thought

American artist Greg Metz’s award-winning artwork, “The Diner,” is making its way across Europe giving visitors food for thought and encouraging vegetarianism as the best way to stop animal suffering and improve human health.

What Exactly Is the Diner?

The Diner is a 3-D, traveling sculptural exhibition of the modern meat trade built into a 27-foot, 1955, Silver Streak airstream travel trailer. On one side, The Diner shows grim images of factory farming, genetic engineering, and slaughter, and on the other side is the answer to the cruel madness: a compassionate meal attended by famous vegetarians. The scene is actually a sculptural re-creation of Da Vinci’s “Last Supper” with a twist: Instead of disciples, famous vegetarians throughout history are shown consuming a nonviolent meal. Vegetarians joining Jesus at the table include Paul McCartney, George Bernard Shaw, Louisa May Alcott, Tolstoy, and avowed vegetarian Leonardo da Vinci himself.

Tour Stops

The Diner will begin its European tour in Dublin with other stops scheduled in Amsterdam, Cologne, Prague, Bologna, and Rome and culminating in an exhibition outside the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, where the original “Last Supper” is on display.

The Secret Life of Steak

Animals on factory farms are being crucified every day, and they are betrayed by the meat-eater at the table. Cows, chickens, pigs, and other animals raised for food can feel pain, just as we do. Yet on today’s “modern” farms, these intelligent, social animals are kept in small, overcrowded stalls and cages, where they’re often unable even to turn around. They are deprived of veterinary care, exercise, sunlight—and even the feel of grass beneath their feet.

Studies have shown that vegetarians live longer, healthier lives than do meat-eaters and are less likely to suffer from debilitating diseases like heart disease, cancer, and obesity.

Environmental Mayhem on the Menu

Meat-based diets also gobble up water, energy, land, and other resources. According to the Union of Concerned Scientists, eating meat is worse for the environment than any other activity except driving cars!
